Our Learning this Term

For information about our learning have a look at our termly newsletter on the class SeeSaw page. The SeeSaw page will also be updated with pictures and notes showing some of our exciting learning activities.

Spellings

Spelling practice daily using the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' sheet.  There will also be an extra practice activity to complete as well.  A spelling test will take place on a Friday.

PE

Our PE days are on Tuesday and Thursday. Thursday’s lesson will be taught by Mrs Monkhouse. Please ensure children come to school on these days in their PE kits. Regardless of the weather, we could be outside so please ensure that the children bring season appropriate kit (named please).

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or catch me at the end of the day if you have any questions.

Foxes’ Class Routines

Reading

The children should bring their reading book to school each day.  They need to complete their reading record to show what and when they have read.  These should be added to every day.  We expect children to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night and for this to include reading to an adult at least 3 times a week. Please sign and date your child’s reading journal and feel free to add any comments regarding their reading.

Children are encouraged to read books from home alongside their school reading book.  Children will also be given the opportunity to visit the school library.

Maths and English Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and needs to be completed for Thursday the following week.  Homework activities are:

  • Daily reading - Record this in you reading record book.

  • Spelling - Complete the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheet - one column per day is best. Choose a multi-sensory activity to complete from the spelling menu. Complete this task on the back of your LSCWCh sheet.

  • Times tables practice - Use Times Tables Rock Stars to practise as often as you can. We run a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition weekly. Who will win - The Arctic Foxes or The Desert Foxes?  Children will also bring home a Times Tables Ninja sheet to complete. The best way is to set a 5 minute timer to see how much can be completed in this time. This is how we will do it in class on a weekly basis.

Helping your child at home

Times Tables

It is important to keep practising times tables to retain and improve fluency of recall.  The homework sheets will help with this, but there are many other games and websites that can support children in their learning. Each child has a log in for Times Table Rockstars and are encouraged to use this fantastic resource to help pracitse their times tables: https://ttrockstars.com/

Spellings

Children often enjoy different and multi-sensory ways to learn their spellings alongside the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check' method.  Please see the document below for some suggested approaches and activities for supporting the learning of spelling.

Reading

Please support your child with reading as much as you can!  Them reading to you, you to them, listening to audiobooks, reading to a sibling - it all counts!  All their reading and any responses they want to make to their reading can be put into their reading journal - children generally really enjoy completing the little tasks and coming up with lots of creative ideas!
