Modern Foreign Languages
Be curious -The children’s natural curiosity and confidence to explore, other countries, cultures, and languages is embraced. We encourage children to speak with increasing confidence, fluency, and spontaneity through discussion, asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
Love learning - Introducing and exposing the children to another language in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating, children are inspired to develop a love of language as part of their lifelong journey of learning. Encouraging them to accept that, in a multi-lingual and global society it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language.
Grow together with respect -Learning a foreign language is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an opening to other cultures. By nurturing the love of another language and respect for another culture we foster children’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world
MFL Purpose of Study
Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language. Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries. - National Curriculum
